Preparing to go: Why are we going?

As we are nearing our date of departure, more and more people are coming up to ask us where we’re going, why we’re going and such like questions. I thought I should share the answers here.

We are moving to Metro Detroit in the state of Michigan. This is where Cameron was born and raised.

Since young, he has always felt that one day he’ll be the pastor of a church in America. When he was in bible school, he received an unmistakable call to missions in Asia and felt he had to follow that call. He ended up staying in India and the Philippines for a number of years. We also met in Singapore during this time. Later on he moved to Singapore when we got married and joined the staff of Cornerstone Community Church, my home church. He was the missions pastor for years and we also pastored the African congregation of our church for a few years. It was a valuable time of learning, growing and serving.

A few years back, we felt the call of God to go back to Michigan. We feel that Cornerstone has a rich heritage and solid teaching of the Word and this was something we needed to bring back to Metro Detroit. There’s a work of restoration needed in the city and God needed to be the God of the city.

The area we are looking at to start a church has an amazing heritage. It was actually founded by the Moravians, a group of early missionaries who gave their lives to bring the gospel to the nations of the world. Missions is very much in our veins and we were excited at that discovery. And excited to go back there to plough the land and start a church.

We will also be living close to Cameron’s family and are excited about that too. We don’t know yet where we will be living as we will be staying with Cameron ‘s parents first when we get there. They’ve graciously welcomed us into their home. We will start looking for a home and a venue for the church when we’re there and plan on formally starting the church by the end of the year.

We know that we have the support of our family and also the church in Singapore and are very blessed by that. Please do pray with us and for us that God will lead us and guide us in the days, months and years ahead. And we look forward to receiving visitors in the years ahead. πŸ™‚

“Eye has not seen, nor ear heard. Nor has entered into the heart of man the things which God has prepared for those who love Him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9)

Because our God is a good, good Father.

Here’s a map of the US if you’re wondering where Michigan is. It’s that orange glove-looking state.
